I am looking for a gentleman named Jerry Lee Gordon who was stationed at Atsugi Naval Air Station in Japan in 1959-1960. He may have attended Pierre High School in the mid 1950's. I am assisting my sister with this search. Please contact me at the above e-mail address.

Hi Gang! Well gang, Sandy and I are back in the mountains of North Georgia after our photo/video safari through the coastal marshes of east-central and the river swamps and marshes of central Florida, canoeing along the St. Johns River. Lots of Florida wildlife including birds of all kinds, snakes galore, beautiful butrterflies, large and small alligators. If you can think of a species, we probably captured it on both videotape and digital SLR, including some uncommonly seen species liked the masked duck, the caracara, the indigo snake and the lesser siren salamander. All-in-all, over 5,000 photos and 150 hours of videotape including 2 Space Shuttle launches, one landing; the Aries Booster Rocket test and a Military Spy Satellite launch. These are business trips so we don't spend much time doing things like eating out, visiting Disney properties and shows and things of that ilk. Don't get me wrong! We walk the beaches and marshes together a lot but always with a camera and camcorder. That is our recreation, exercise and joy in life...to be among Gods other gifts and to recognize His gifts to us and to hopefully share them with many others as our work product and source of income. When I get more time, and learn how to forward my photographs to our webmaster, I will share some off the more interesting 'shots' with those who visit our web pages. Our mountain home was perfectly in tact after being abandoned for over 5 months. No frozen water pipes although the area had record colds this winter in our absence. We have a steep drive but were able to navigate it with no difficulty, a few wet leaves from the Fall with snow and ice insulated within them. It is nice to be home, Sandy having caught up with the chore of going through, opening and organizing over a bushel of bills, Christmas Cards, personal letters and then all of the 3rd Class junk-mail. Then, of course, she had to prepare and file our taxes while I sat up my office, editing and photo-video files, etc. and getting the mechanics of the house in order; security lighting, hot water, walks and driveways, trash, etc., etc., etc.....we are Church Financial and Family History Auditors for 3 Wards of our Church and had to get back in time to do our Annual Audits before the end of Feb. so we busied ourselves with that also. We look forward to springtime in the mountains with visits from some of our native animals and of course the blossoming plants and shrubs. Lots of video and photo work in this season too. It is so good to be home but we are already makiing travel plans for the up-coming year when we will be going out west for several months. Perhaps we can see some of you on that trip. That's enough of my boring pratter but more later. Drop us a line if you get the opportunity and let me know of any wildlife photo or video opportunities in your local. Have a happy new year! I spoke with Jim Leonard the other day. He told me that some of the people in his office had printed out the Hooter's calendar that I sent him last year. Apparently they must have wanted to put it on their refrigerators. If anyone wants the Hooter's calendar for 2010 just email me and I will send it back so you can print it out. I was surprised that people working for Jim enjoyed it. No one else was grateful. I have one on our refrigerator and enjoy it daily.

Our crocuses are up and colorful. The daffodils are about eight inches above the ground and the hyacinths are also well above ground. It is testimony to spring being around the corner.

It is hard to believe that it is already 2010. I am looking forward to 2011 to seeing everyone again. That seems to be the only time we get together. Keith Hickey lives in Seattle and although I get over from the island to Seattle about once a month, it may be a year from now in Pierre that we will see each other again.

I continue to get email from several classmates (however, none has asked for the Hooter's calendar). I think that Clint probably only wants the Budweiser calendar.

I understand that Jack Kirkpatrick has become a computer nerd. When we get together in 2011, I'll have to check with him regarding some persistent computer problems.

Until next year..................best regards.

Part II The Life and Times of Howard Brancel

Why the navy one may ask? For me, there was no choice. All my interests acted like a big boot in the rump in that direction.

In 1951 (I was the tender age of 14) my Uncle Red invited me to visit him at the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard. He was a master salvage (hardhat) diver and stationed there as an instructor in "underwater cutting and welding". The second day there, he had me at the bottom of a 40 foot deep tower designed as an underwater escape trunk to teach submariners how to make an emergency free ascent from a downed submarine using the "blow and go" technique of surfacing. I was down there trying to assemble 5 pieces of 1"x6"x6" wood into a box using a conventional hammer and nails.

Holding 5 pieces of very buoyant wood while holding a handful of nails and hammering them in with a hammer is hard to do on dry land much less under 40 feet of water breathing air through a modified gas mask (Jack Brown Rig) hooked by hose to an air compressor...this on top of being 14 years old... was quite an exciting experience. I remember it as if it were yesterday. Couple that with devouring the novel "Pig Boats", a novel by a retired WWII submariner and you are on your way.

That same summer, my uncle by marriage to my blood aunt (he was a Major in the United States Air Force stationed at Bolling Air Force Base and Andrews Air Force Base just outside of Washington D.C.), on that same trip east, introduced me to a 2nd. class petty officer attending Explosive Ordnance Disposal training at Indian Head Munitions Propellant Plant at Indian Head, Maryland. This enlisted man became a life-long friend as he advanced from Enlisted Petty Officer to Officer Candidacy School, received his commission as a Naval Officer attaining the rank of full Captain; commanding both surface combat vessels, amphibious vessels, and Commanding Officer of Underwater Demolition Team 21 and during Viet Nam, Commander in charge of all Naval Special Warfare Units deployed during the Viet Nam War followed by his retirement after 30+ years. His name was Captain David Schaible. He visited me in Pierre twice to go hunting and fishing while I was serving on the Pierre Police Department.

I learned a lot about the Frogmen or Underwater Demolition Team personnel from both David and my Uncle Red so after being sworn in to the navy in Omaha, Nebraska and a short train ride to San Diego, California where I attended "Boot Camp" followed by Machinery Repairman Class "A" School, I was ready to be a "Frogman" or "Underwater Warrior" as they were called.

MORE LATER IF ENCOURAGED...

Effective September 14, 2009 our mailing address has been changed from 6810 GA 180 Blairsville, Georgia 30512 to the following: Howard Brancel 3534 GA 180 Blairsville, GA 30512

Same place for the past 27 years but we have a new Emergency 911 county numbering system due to new sub-divisions, etc. which required making a new, more extensive county map system. I hope this is it for a while as it is the fifth time this has happened since I bought this place. As you can imagine, it requires lots of letters of notification to business associates, creditors, etc..

Hope you all will use it from time to time if you don't like to use the computer.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Gang... Well, let's see if the "powers that be" are interested in sharing any of this with any of you. I am going to share with you, at least in part, some of "The Life and Times" of Howard Brancel since we last shared a class room or gymnasium. I will submit the first draft, see if it is published and if so, if it generates or stimulates any sort of response which might prompt me into submitting a second section. When time permits, Ilove to write.

AN INTRODUCTION

As some may recall, I was not active in team sports. I liked ice hockey and swimming for sports and most of my recreational time took place at the municipal pool or the ice sakting rink. I was raised, with my brother Bob, by my grandparents from the time I was 4 months old (Bob was 18 months my senior).

I worked for my grandfather at his sport shop all of my high school days seining minnows, catching crayfish and frogs and digging worms for him to sell as bait during the warmer months and trapping furs and predators during the winter for pelts and bounty...this is by way of an explanation for my compelling interest in wildlife and the great out-of-doors. Suffice it to say that I spent most of my time hunting, fishing, guiding and trapping. Back then, most of us hunted and fished for table meat more than sport.

By the time I had graduated from high school I had already purchased a better-than-average 35mm camera and was photographing more game, etc. than I was shooting for table fare.

Almost immediately after graduating from high school I was accepted on a forestry major program at the university of Montana at Missoula. I moved to Great Falls to work for the summer and at time to enroll, I was notified that they had over-accepted for their out-of-state student quota and I had to make an immediate transfer to So.Dak. State at Brookings on a pre-forestry program.

When I ran out of my own money and my family could not afford 2 boys in college at the same time, I dropped out after the second quarter and joined the U. S. Navy. perhaps to be continued...

I just finished browsing our Class Web Page and really enjoyed all the splendid growth it has enjoyed due to all of your efforts. My wife Sandy and I have been in Florida for a couple of days organizing our next five months canoeing the rivers, lakes and coastal marshlands of central Florida building our wildlife video and still photo library for future productions. We plan to be back in our North Georgia Mountain home by February 1, 2010.

I especially enjoyed the navy photos of Mike, Ed and Don. Also the article on the Casey Tibbs Memorial Trail Ride. My dive partner Ken Manning and I provided the life guard services for Casey and his riders as they drove the "Born to Buck" stallions and mares across the Missouri just below Oahe tailrace after the hellacious afternoon rainstorm washed many of the stock into the river. Got a few pictures of that activity.

I also have many photos of my navy days from 1957 - 1962 when I served aboard navy destroyers in Norfolk, VA (where I had a totally unprepared for meeting with Ed Bartels in front of a theater on base) and Underwater Demolition Team 21 at Little Creek Amphibious Base.

I took and have many interesting photographs of things like "on location" photos of the filming of the movie The Longest Day on Corsica and Sardinia depicting the Normandy Invasion of WWII in which my UDT Team mates and myself did all of the demolition of beach obstacles and simulated ship-to-shore naval gunfire used in the movie. As you can imagine, my time as a navy frogman provided many exciting and memorable moments from various training activities to foreign military operations throughout Europe and the middle east. When I return to Georgia in February I shall put something together for you.

By the Way, Harvey Bieber and myself joined the navy together on 2 Feb. 1957 in Omaha, Nebraska and traveled to boot camp in San Diego via the Super Chief.

Thanks again for your efforts Frank, they mean a lot to me.

sharon had been having some trouble with people mistakenly calling her home to schedule golf tee times. she thought our web site might have been part of the problem. larry kleinschmidt took care of any possible problem which might have been generated by the web site. i hope everything get's straightened out for her.

in response, we got a note from sharon thanking us for our efforts, and she included a bit of news.  as you may already know, sharon is a bit of a golf widow, so she had to develop some other interests. she has a web site which is very impressive. i would suggest to everyone that they too, go to her website to see what she is doing. the site is

Hi all

I am now up to 48 WPM typing on Type Racer, but now as I practice, there are no big rewards. My goal is to hit 50, but it gets more and more difficult. Each little increment now is tough.

I'm determined though. That is far greater than I ever achieved at high school, but it was PHS which gave me the grounding to even make the attempt.

I told my sister about Type Racer, so she went on the site and broke 80 the first time she was there. Of course she could always type like the wind. I have no illusions about trying to match her.

Who was the fastest typist in our class? Was it Flu?

This is just an update to everyone. We had a spammer find the website again. We were getting so many spam messages for the sale of Viagra every day that even Clint didn't need that much information.

We asked for the expertise of Larry Kleinschmidt. He made changes which will keep the site safe from spam for the time being. He is also trying to give us a longer term solution, although it may not be possible because of proprietary extensions on the files.

Anyway......................we will try to keep the web site going. That brings us to the next point. The site is followed by a number of people. They want to see what their classmates are doing before we all get together to compare notes in 2011. This means that we want everyone to share stories of interest, or even what you are thinking.

While it is true that several of us monitor the site, the only topics which are off limits are things which may offend someone. I wrote something which I thought was very humorous and I was quite proud of it, but my colleagues went "Hmmmmm" and suggested it might be a bit vulgar so the only print I have seen on it is that from Microsoft word.

I will say though, that in my e-mail I get some of the most creative phishing (which is the term used when someone tries to bilk others out by fraudulent use of the internet). We have all been exposed to the e-mail from Oobugalu Nemuli, the treasurer of Namibia, who is going to give us two million dollars for the simple use of our bank account (I guess because he doesn't have a friend in the world who could use a spare million, which is why he solicits the help of a stranger).

But I digress....................I got e-mail the other day purportedly from Dick Stageberg who was writing that he had to make an emergency trip to England and needed some cash. The composer of the missive told me to wire 2,000 dollars to England and that he would repay me the moment he returned. The e-mail was sent to "Dear James" and signed "Sincerely, Richard Stageberg" and obviously it wasn't from someone who grew up in Pierre. Whoever has heard us called James and Richard? You have to admit that someone is pretty good with phishing though. Somehow he is able to steal someone's mailing list and get it sent to the recipients with a story which may sound realistic to others. While my wife figures I am going senile, I'm not that far gone to be unable to identify phishing. I don't even use online banking to decrease my jeopardy.

Anyway..............I guess I am rambling. Please contribute things to this web site. We know that Jack and LaVona were visiting Jerry Ward and would like to hear about their trip. Jim Leonard is thinking about opening an office in Las Vegas. Jeannette has never told us about how she likes Ohio. We get frequent communication from Frank, but he doesn't post his news here. While we have to wait for Ed to bang out something on his computer, he is excused because he doesn't access the internet. Speaking of Ed................he was a pretty fast typist. There is a site on the internet where you can compete with others for typing speed. It is called Type Racer. When there is nothing else for me to do on the computer, I go there and type a few races. I still type an average of 44 WPM thanks to PHS. Perhaps we may see each other there.

My communication was just interrupted.  It was Ed.  I even read him some of the things I had been typing here.  He sounded good.  He says that he is in good health.  We talked about the banking situation.  I gave him an update on what is happening with our classmates as I know it.  I suggested that he go to one of the libraries in Lawrence and find the type racer program on their computers.   Ed told me that his wife was a legal secretary and could type 80 WPM (almost incredible to me). He also told me that he had tried unsuccessfully to contact Jerry Cave. I guess Jerry is out touring the US.

Contribute reading material everyone, contribute. Even a short vacation story will be of interest to your classmates.

In the meantime, for those of you who are in contact with Larry Kleinschmidt, thank him for his help.

I hope this brings some of you up to date on what some of your classmates are doing. Now it is your turn.

Hello Every one

Don't know exactly why, but I am looking forward to our next Class Reunion.

I am still running theatres for Cinemark / Century Theaters in Springfield, Oregon. I run the Cinemark 17, and have been with Cinemark for 18 years.

My youngest, Ashley, will be 15 this year. Boy, does time fly by. Of course my oldest is 44 this year...what a spread.

Kad..you asked if I got my hip...the answer is that I did get a a full right hip replacement. I am getting around and along just fine. They do wonderful things now days. Of course, Stadium Theatres are kinda hard on me and my hip.

The wonderful thing about life, is friends, and your roots. The class of 56 belong to all of us, in our roots, friendships, and in the deep crevices of our hearts.

Love you all...

Hello and Season's Greetings from South Dakota!

Just a note that we have a change of address--No we have not moved-- just the postal service did! The street address is still the same but it is now Midland, SD 57552.

Jack is getting pretty much fully retired, just helps out when our son needs it and asks!

Kad, he is learning the puter now and I will have our daughter set him up with an email address while she is home this weekend, then you can write to him. So there is hope that Ed M. might give in one of these days also and get a computer! Takes a while to teach these old dogs new tricks you know.

Have a great Christmas and Happy and Healthy 2009!

Hi all:

I had an enjoyable conversation with Jim Leonard the other day. He tells me that he is buying bargain stocks now. I guess if you are nationally recognized as a savvy money manager, you can do that. If you are a rank amateur like me, then you just keep throwing good money after bad. To all those people who gave us advice about just staying the course while the market keeps going down, I say go soak your head.

Jim tells me that he recently had dinner with Roger and Beth while he was in SoDak. He didn't make it to Pierre that trip though. I think Roger has an incorrect e-mail address in the contact list. If anyone knows it, let us know and we can update the list.

Anyone on Frank's e-mail list gets frequent updates on what he is doing, but with Jim, since he has someone screening his e-mail, he doesn't get apprised so quickly. He is reliant on the phone. Occasionally I send a note to Jim, and in the subject line I tell the individual monitoring his e-mail to just give it to him.

Thinking about the phone...............last month we were in Spain and a friend who travels a great deal suggested that we get "Skype" to talk over the computer. It was just great. We would go to McDonalds, and buy a couple of hamburgers, and ask for a free "WiFi" card (They pronounce it "wiffee" in Spain) and the card allows you to sit there in the McDonalds and utilize their wireless internet. We would sit at the table with the laptop running on batteries, and then use Skype to call back to the US. The total cost to make calls was only pennies.

If you make international calls, or your long distance calls are pricey, then just go to www.skype.com and download their program. Then sign up for Skype by putting 10 dollars in an account. Then you are ready to start making international calls or any other long distance calls you wish for about two cents a minute. We have made numerous calls (including one this morning to Nina's brother in London) a two cents a minute. I still have over five dollars in the account.

The only thing you have to do is have a sensitive microphone for your computer. You will hear the people on the other end through your computer speakers. The clarity is great, and the people on the other end don't have a clue that you are not calling them on the phone. To them, they just hear the phone ringing, and answer another phone call. They can just think you are being a big spender calling them internationally.

You can call any phone in the world at about two cents a minute. If you are surfing the net and want to make a call, you can do so. If you have grandchildren in a Tibetan monastery you can simply call them, and if they have Skype, they can call you anytime as well. It's pretty neat.

Bill...................let us know how you are doing. A lightweight guy like you would just blow away in any big storm.

Charlie.................did you get your hip?

Jeannette..................how is Ohio? I'm sure you will miss the upcoming snow in Pierre.

Jack....................give us your e-mail address, then LaVona won't have to pick up your e-mail.

Now that New Orleans is getting back on it's feet, Christina is probably going to invite us all down as house guests for the next Mardi Gras. Right?

Hi all:

I received a call tonight from Ed Matthews. His brother Dixie (I think we all remember him) sent Ed information on an exhibition of Fritz Scholder. Ed (one of a microscopically small contingent without computers) gave me the information and it was pretty easy to pull up the information. You can also pull it up on your computer.

There is a National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. and they currently have an exhibition of Fritz Scholders' work entitled "Indian / Not Indian". It is running concurrently with a Scholder exhibition at their George Gustav Heye Center in New York . If you wish more information on either exhibition, you can go the their web site www.nmai.si.edu.

Ed tells me that they greatly enjoy living in Lawrence, KS. They find so much more to interest them than in southern Missouri. Drop him a note sometime.

Today I received a wonderful note from Beverly. I read it to Nina, and we both enjoyed it.

Beverly and Duane were back in South Dakota a short time ago, both in Pierre and Onida (Duane's home). Onida was celebrating 125 years of the city, and in Pierre, there were bikers on their way to Sturgis. It must have been an eventful trip.

What wonderful classmates we had. I guess we were blessed. I look forward to 2011 to our next reunion.

Best regards to all,

hi all i just received a nice note from ed matthews. he and his wife have made the move to lawrence, kansas, and apparently enjoy it. his address has been updated in the locator if anyone wants to drop him a note.

ed and jerry cave are staying in touch.

Ed also said that he had reviewed the last class reunion pictures disc and with the exception of the two of us, the rest of the people had aged. i had noticed the same thing, but thought i was the only one who hadn't aged. i guess we will have to revisit the issue in another couple years.

i am sure that bill hasn't aged at all. it is slim, trim willy all over again.

nina and i have just returned from a cruise to alaska to see the glaciers while they are still there. it was a worthwhile trip, but i was surprised they still had drizzle the last week of july. the country was magnificent and so unspoiled. the trip was worthwhile in that respect. once is enough for me though, it is a bit too isolated for my liking.

regards to everyone.

Hi all:

Ed Matthews and his wife are moving to Lawrence, Kansas. They will be there by the end of July. Apparently they like the academic environment. It will be a good opportunity for them to enjoy theater and concerts.

Their address will be 4415 Freedom Creek Drive, Lawrence, Kansas 66049. We won't change their address in the locater until they move.

If there is anyone else who has moved and now has an old address in the locater page, let us know. We can update other addresses as well.

Happy birthday to me!!! Today--May 27--is another big one. I'm sure you all are able to guess which one!!

Also please use one of the following e-mail addresses as the Kwiknet site is no longer in operation: bill@coachfritz.com or fritz@rowan.edu

Even bigger news---and I mean big is--- that I have lost 85 lbs. since 1/2008. I have to give Bill Miller credit for that---he inspired me to purchase a scale & throw away my fork.

The bad news is now I only own 1 pair of slacks, 1 pr of jeans, 2 pairs of shorts & a whole bunch of XXXL shirts. When I finish dropping I'll have to retool my clothing inventory.

Jim K & Frank keep those e-mails coming---I can hardly wait until the next one. Clint keep riding herd on those guys--at least they have an 'outstanding watcher.'

I must go out and walk the cat + check on my herd of Chihuahuas----they are getting excited about something out there.

I spoke with both Jerry Cave and Ed Matthews this past week. The conversations were really enjoyable. They both have very interesting stories to tell about what they have done since leaving Pierre.

Ed still hasn't moved to Lawrence, Kansas, but continues to plan on it. He still refuses to go on line.

Jerry continues to monitor his lakefront property. Unfortunately, the economic slowdown which has affected all of us has slowed his plans for building.

I haven't spoken with Clint for some time, but know that his daughter is ranked among the best in her rodeo talent. Perhaps we have a budding Casey Tibbs for Pierre to get excited about.

Dick Stageberg continues to send me ridiculous stuff, but still hasn't fessed up about the chocolate chip cookie recipe that his mother is mum about. His grandaughter is one of the best gymnasts in the US.

I haven't heard from Jim Leonard for some time. Hopefully he isn't tearing out his hair with the big time downturn of the market.

Good morning all, Had to resort to sending a few emails -- but wanted you all to know that Chuck passed away yesterday noon --

he'd been doing quite good actually so kind of came on suddenly -- which is what we knew might happen. So now have to go this afternoon to the funeral home to make arrangements -- will have services in Rapid City with burial at Black Hills National -- which was his wish and I agreed.

Am hoping for next Monday -- the kids will all be able to come. You all can let other classmates know -- even though they did not know him all that well other than "associated with me."

Love, Agnes

The SoDak State Wage & Hour Department claimed Jack Kirkpatrick was not paying proper wages for their help and sent an agent out to interview him.

When he met Jack he said "I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them".

" Well," said Jack, "There's my ranch hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $200 a week plus free room and board.

The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $150 per week plus free room and board.

Then there's the half-wit who works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board. I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night. He also sleeps with my wife occasionally."

"That's the guy I want to talk to --- the half-wit," said the agent.

"That would be me," replied Jack.

Jerry...is Howard's DVD anything like "Girls Gone WIld"? I borrowed Clint's collection, but they were worn out. The video was shot, but the audio came thru....it was really weird w/o the video. Back in college, we would gather a huge coed group at the Frat house to watch those late night grade D movies...turn the sound off and everyone would just ad lib. It was a riot. Much better script that the movie audio.

jeannette would have to tell us how much it costs. i think this site may be about 100 dollars a year, but there are now so many web site supporting places we could probably do it for sixty or seventy dollars a year.

while it isn't terribly expensive, we weren't sure that anyone was out there checking the site now. if there are only a few, it might be easier to make a folder of classmates who want to stay in touch on your email site and send out a joke once every month or two. however, if there are a number of classmates who check in a couple of times a week, there would be more interest in maintaining it.

this is why we need some dialogue. there could be some communication in this comments section. for example..........if someone were to say "i'm going to Chicago May 12 - 15. is there anyone who wants to have a beer?" or if jeannette were to tell us of things happening to our classmates (either good or bad), then the site could serve a purpose.

Is there anyone else out there reading this or wanting to maintain it beside jerry? does the site serve a purpose to enough people to maintain it, either at this web address or another?  if there are twenty or thirty others and they would like to see it continued, even at a low level of activity, they need to let us know and post something here.  remember...........it requires some effort, even if it is only to remove the porn and erectile dysfunction ads.

if we could get ed matthews to acquire a computer at a yard sale, he could post commentary we would all probably read.  frank also has many irons in the fire to tell us about.  jeannette knows everything going on with classmates.  clint finds humorous stuff everywhere.  still...............there are no posts from these people since shortly after the reunion, and they may not be checking the web site.

if we don't get feedback from others beside jerry and me, then the website is probably not worth the effort.  jerry and i can stay in touch by e-mail.

what is the monthly charges on the website, perhaps the ones that check it on a regular basis like myself could off-set the expense, so we could have a in-touch media. I would pay a yearly amount to keep the website intact, if their was enough interest to help with paying the fees. at least two to three times a week I scan the site to see whats happening with the class of 56. I was impressed with the classmates at the 50th reunion and would like to keep intouch with them on the website.

Hi all: Jeannette and I have had discussion regarding the class web site. There is a monthly charge to keep it going, and while it served everyone well in staying current until the recent reunion, perhaps it is time to shut it down and save the expense. The money may be better used for an account to defray expenses when planning the 55th.

An alternative would be if a class member has a site which he or she is maintaining for other purposes, and has additional space which is not being used, that person might volunteer to tack the present class website onto it.  We could discontinue the current one and save the money. The only thing which would change would be the present website address.

Another alternative is if someone feels strongly enough about continuing the web site as it is, that person could offer to underwrite the expense.

It would be good if we can have some dialogue on the question at hand. Does anyone have strong opinions one way or the other? Is there any objection to shutting down the web site?

One last thing.  The class of 1957 is having their 50th reunion this coming September.  If you have interest, you could monitor their web site at www.pierreclassof1957.com or contact George and Marilyn Leonard for more details.

I came across this exercise suggested for seniors, to build muscle strength in the arms and shoulders. It seems so easy, and is working so well for me, I thought I'd pass it on. The article suggested doing it three days a week.

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5-lb. potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides, and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day, you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb. potato sacks. Then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 20-lb. potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute.

Once you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each sack.

OK Bill Fritz I always have trouble with the "want to be cops" at airports, since I had a total right side hip replacment. I am metal from just above the knee up to my pelvis. I also carry a card from the Doctor, telling the idiots, that I have a lot of metal in me. Its just a hay-day for them, they think..."hoo-ray, I get to use my fancy wand" They are all the same....mall security, and the like. Nothing but jerks, and I usually tell them so. That's probably why they go into orbit, waving their magic wands around. Never found one with a sense of humor either. Oh well...see you all in five years, God willing. Charlie McLaughlin

The only camera I heard of after the boat ride was the police officer who was ready to photograph departing folks. Said he was looking for convicts from California. They had very good costumes because he didn't see anyone that matched the wanted posters so he didn't take any pictures. Wished I had talked to him earlier. We probably would have some pictures and Jeannette would have had to spend some of the class's money for bail.

okay everyone. bill fritz, vic, clint, jeane, lavona, george and frank have all contributed pictures and i got some pictures early from people at the reception and dinner. i have worked up all that i have, removing red eye, cropping, discarding those which are not really salvageable, etc. i am about ready to print them on a CD but would prefer to stop the presses for those that i know elaine has. There may be someone else out there with pictures too, but the ones i really want are some from sunday. if anyone has more from either the breakfast at the ramkota or the boat ride, those are the ones which we really need to give everyone a good CD full of memories. anyone who might see elaine, please encourage her to send her pictures for addition to the CD and if anyone going on the boat ride saw anyone there with a camera, please prod him or her to get them processed if they were using film, and have the lab also include a digitized CD for sending to me. if they were digital pictures please just send them to me by e-mail. even if you think that the pictures are in a proprietary format, send them. i'll get them converted somehow.

Raw Buffalo? Man, that's the reason I had to leave Pierre and get a real job. Me and Clint heard about the Sushi rage in San Francisco back  in 1959. So, we opened a Sushi Bar serving raw buffalo on a spoon of grits (American Sushi)....and added raw carp and catfish to the menu. Wasn't a big hit....went broke...lost all my investment....$25.

Ya know raw Buffalo is real chewy.

BTW...Clint just tried to join e-harmony...got turned down cause he had one too many dimensions. He's taking it pretty hard. If ya think of it, send him a sympathy e-mail.

St. Jude and I are living it up here at the Sedona Pines in Sedona, AZ....life is good. Speaking of Buffalos....any of you guys know where the Pierre-Bismarck traveling trophy came about? Ask Bill Fritz...he knows.

Pictures!! Does anyone have a 10 yr. reunion group shot???---was it black and white?? OK Kad you got me--I have a few shots from the boat ride---1. Dick Hudson was water-skiing behind the tour boat. 2. A group of the women got together and preformed a synchronized swimming routine until the current forced them to drift apart and they had to scramble alittle. They did keep their cool and made it look easy! The bestest part of the whole boat trip was when we killed a buffalo, butchered and bar-b-qued it on a sand bar just off Ft. Pierre. I believe that I observed a couple of class mates enjoying raw buffalo. Now the following is the truth--On the flight out on Mon. in the early am John Salliday looked in to say 'good bye'. The greatest part of this departure was Chuckles getting 'wanded' at the security gate on his way to Denver. Where was my camcorder when I needed it? Chuck appeared to be enjoying it. I think I heard him say 'higher and more to the left.' at one point. We said good bye to A. Potter [T] in the MLPS/STP airport. Thanks to the committee and everybody else for an outstanding experience....it could not have been better. bf

hi all: i just received photos from frank and there were some good shots from clint's cabaret, but apparently there was a problem later in the reunion...................i still need more pictures. if you were taking pictures with film, when you get them processed, ask for digital images on a CD at the time. then either send me the CD or a copy of it. i will continue to work with the images until we have enough pictures for the class CD. if you only have a few pictures, attach them to e-mail and send them on. i'll keep everyone posted as to progress.

hi all: i just received a CD with all kinds of pictures from the leonards. george also took some scenic pictures of the pierre area and i will be including some of those in the CD we are putting together. i know that george was not the only one taking pictures though.............so please send your pictures for inclusion in a CD. i returned with many pictures, some of which i have been discarding or cropping. i have also been busy taking care of "red eye" and changing light levels. send everything, and let me see whether they might okay for inclusion. i will do what i can to salvage marginal pictures. i still have no pictures from Sunday as i had to return fairly early and that is a big void. please get those pictures to me if you want to share them with others.

Judy (Hartwell) Ove and Paul drove to Salt Lake City to visit with their daughter and family right after the reunion...on their way back to California....Judy became the grandmother of a wee baby boy....Mark.....the day after she arrived! Kind of neat, eh? I checked all our doorsteps when we got home....no babies....only bills.

Yo....Brothers and Sisters...after 10 days in Pierre; I am exhausted. The start was a ride on the Att Gen's float in the Viet Nam Parade with 6 other Vets...truly was awesome...all of us on the float cried at one point or another. Emotions can be very powerful. Then we just went and went every day. I can honestly say that there was never a dull moment. Seeing Bill Fritz again was special...as was being able to spend time with all of you guys and gals. Judy has been quizzing me about my youth...now...since evryone told her she had to be a Saint. Gol, I was just a'nuther kid, Ya'll. Picotte and family made us both shed a few tears....once again, they proved to be friends to all. 2011 can't come soon enough.

I had a great time seeing everyone again. it was too bad that the rain jeannette asked for all the time leading up to the reunion came while we were there, keeping us indoors, but the time that we were able to spend together was great fun. i will begin processing all the pictures. if you took any pictures while we were together, please send them to me and i will include them on the CD. if you gave pictures to me while i was there and are now doubtful about which you gave to me, send them all. i'll cull out the duplicates. i'm sure that there are many more pictures from your boat trip. please send all those images to me. you can send them as e-mail attachments, or burn them on a CD, but do send them on for inclusion with all the other pictures. We will get out a CD with all the received pictures as soon as possible, but it will take perhaps twenty or thirty hours to get them organized, correctly oriented, cropped and color corrected, so don't anticipate the disc immediately. i'm working this week, but will dedicate my efforts next week to a composite CD. Hopefully, it will be done before the class picture is available. keep in touch. Kad

Hi from Ft. Pierre, Flew in yesterday[9/21] & Audr. Potter-T was on the flight from MSP to Pierre. At the HI- Exp we received a strange call saying 'we got a party going on over here--we'll pick you up.' Next thing we know we are in Clint' s Saloon with a very strong group of 56ers...I won't list them all as I'll probably forget somebody. It was well worth the trip. Some I have not seen in 40-50 years. Get on in here you'll have a million laughs and just as many smiles. the big B

Jim Kadlec is willing to put together a CD of the class reunion pictures with your help. He is bringing his laptop so anyone who takes pictures Thursday, Friday or Saturday afternoon can transfer them from their camera to Jim's laptop. If it is more convenient, you can probably transfer them to Clint's computer and Jim can retrieve them later. While there may be compatibility issues of proprietary equipment with some of the cameras, if there are, you can take your camera home, download the pictures with your camera manufacturer's program, and either burn them on a CD to send to Jim, or you can e-mail the pictures to him. We need many pictures to develop a memorable CD. Your help is needed and appreciated. Even if the pictures don't look so great, please include them. Jim says he will do what he can to color correct, brighten or darken, or crop them to make them as good as possible. Just bring your cameras and take lots of pictures. Then get them to Jim at the Eagle's View B&B in Ft. Pierre or to the dinner on Saturday. Any pictures taken later Saturday night or on Sunday will have to be e-mailed or sent to Jim, or make sure Clint receives them for transmittal to Jim. Thank you! It's getting close Classmates and the Reunion Committee looks forward to seeing you all here in a couple of weeks! Stay well and be safe! God bless. Jeannette

Just got my airline stuff squared away--- Just got back from Scotland right before all the 'excitement' so we didn't have to go through too much hassle returning to Jersey. That was my 'warm-up' trip for the Dakotas. Actually I haven't been back since '69---that day had a tremendous blizzard and 50-60 mph winds--30+ below temps --and a wind chill that made you feel nude not matter how many clothes you were wearing. I said I probably would not be back any more if I could just make it to the state line [I was going to Southern Illinois at the time]. That was at a Christmas break and it was my last visit to SD. See you in less than a month. Bill Fritz

Have you ever been guilty of looking at others your own age and thinking, "Surely I can't look that old!" Well, baby, you're gonna love this one . . . . . . . I was sitting in the waiting room in Sandusky for my first appointment with a new dentist. I noticed his diploma hanging on the wall. It bore his full name....and I suddenly remembered a tall, handsome, dark-haired boy with the same name. He had been in my high school class some 50 years before....and I wondered if he could be the same guy I had a secret crush on way back then?? When I got into the treatment room, I quickly discarded any such thought. This balding, gray-haired man, with the deeply lined face. was much too old to have been my secret crush.......or was he??? After he examined my teeth. I asked if he had attended Morgan Park High School. "Yes, I did. I'm a Mustang!" He said, gleaming with pride. "When did you graduate?" I asked. "1956. Why do you ask?" he answered. "Well, you were in my class!" I exclaimed. Then that ugly, old, wrinkled SOB asked, "What did you teach?" See you guys in September!

So for all those people who are whining about gas prices--- these people are coming from quite a distance to join in the celebration. By the way, I am going to the Pierre Players current production with Joan Frazee Trautner. Don't you think it would be appropriate for me to personally ask her to join us for at least the social hour on Friday, September 22. Phil was a large part of the lives of many of the boys in the class. Delcie Scofield indicated she would like to see Dean's classmates again. Hey---keep those registrations coming! God bless. JP

GREAT FIREWORKS after rodeo. Best one ever. It was awesome!!! Rodeo was great also because my daughter, Jill, won the barrell racing. Everybody headed home but Kochs are still here and will be until the 13th when they will head for the Black Hills for a family reunion. Sandal and I will remain in Pierre and hold the fort until the BIG class reunion. Best start packing your bags because the big weekend is just around the corner. As ever C

YES, YES, YES!! Most class reunions do this for the Social Hour on Friday night and we will place an ad in the Reminder and Capital Journal on the Wednesday before the reunion. I spoke with Evelyn Longland of the Class of 1957 and told her that we would be posting an open invitation to friends of the Class, teachers, etc. In fact, one of the Bergeson's was at the 45th Reunion social hour. Always great to see friends of the class. In fact, I am glad you mentioned it now. I will place a reminder on my calendar for that time frame so it doesn't get by me. Met with the new manager of the Izaak Walton this week just to make sure he was aware of our arrangements. I now feel confident that we are both on the same page and he was grateful for the contact.

Frank and Judy: It's a BEEEOOOOtiful day in our neighborhood. High seventies, when all around us are in the high 80's. Coolest day this week west of us, especially Sacramento. Since SoDak, I've not been able to handle heat as well as I could as a kid; especially when it is influenced by humidity! We are usually near the 30 mark on our humidity dial but frequently a little higher. The grocery and drug stores sell moisture cream by the gallons. Paul and five other of our best friends took off for Nevada this morning. They check into the nearest motel (Carson City) which is inside their favorite casino - then proceed to gamble as though they were rich. They only do this once or sometimes twice a year - so the family can't really gripe for lack of something to eat. When this happens, at least three of their wives (me always included when chemo doesn't interfere) go out to the swankest is that a real word??) place we can think of to gab, eat and generally enjoy the lack of dishes to wash. The guys gamble nearly all night (it being Sunday when most people & tourists have departed), rest a few hours and then the soberest drive the two cars home. They are home in the early to mid-afternoon and sleep the rest of the day (Monday). Of course THEY have all dined on lobster-level cuisine while we wives are almost always careful of the bucks. It's as good for the wives as it is for the guys. They can scratch and swear all they want to because we're not there; and we can forget to check on their welfare and comfort for about 36 hours. If it sounds boring it MAY be; but only if you are accustomed to high-level excitement most of the time. I loved the Bay Area for all it had to offer. I love these mountains and trees for the peace and quiet, deer, squirrels and birds galore. Plus when I was diagnosed, good people (with their prayers, homemade food and general goodness) seemed to come out of nowhere. Of course, they had been there the entire time; they just hadn't been needed so much before. I know you are busy - it's just such fun to have my poor old fingers working well enough to type again. Couldn't resist writing you two. Much love, The Judester

Your e-mails keep us smilin'. Much grass, as the teenagers said in the '70's. I missed your call the other day. Sorry. I'm having a great day. Actually did several things today: Got up, showered, dressed, went to clinic for blood test, went to the club for a drink and to see friends, came home and ironed some clothes. We're going out to dinner tonight - a real thrill for me. I love my home but BOY!!!! is it ever good to be out of it from time to time. …….. Can't wait to see you and all the old gang. Tried on a pair of jeans just awhile ago that I had bought over three years ago, just before my belly swelled up so badly (no kidding, people thought I was nine months along and WAAAAY too old to be having a baby!) Anyway the jeans FIT!!!! Talk about how little it takes to get me high. But I'm sure your Judy will understand how much I needed that little surprise. I know you are busier than the proverbial cat but just have to add one more thing. We are SO PROUD of you and Judy and the kind of people you are. Just wish you didn't have to work so hard. Love ya' both. The Judester

Did you hear about Mary Helen’s frightening adventure? On a recent vacation, she accidentally got locked in a chocolate factory after lagging behind on a tour. She had to subsist on chocolate until Monday when she was rescued, because she didn’t have coins for the pay phone and was sure it was against company policy to use the other phones for personal use. Incredibly, when the janitorial staff arrived Friday night, they also didn’t have change for the phone.

Speaking of George Leonard.....I remember one 4th of July, George got his Dad's brand-spankin' new car for the evening. He picked up Jim Erickson, myself and Beuchler....we bought a bunch of fireworks at a local stand and headed to a party at Farm Island....on the way, we lit some firecrackers and were tossing them out the window (at folks)...somehow, some sparks got into the fireworks laying on the floorboard in the back seat and it all started going off....inside the car...at night. Bottle rockets, firecracker strings, cherry bombs, et al were flying all over inside th car...making one heck of a lot of noise and also blinding all of us....plus it just down right scared the heck out of all of us. Fortunately, George drove off the road into the ditch....w/o hurting anyone or the car. Twas a 4th to remember. I still fear George's Dad......we all got a spankin' a'comin'.

At our 45th reunion, the Picotte family gave us a Sioux "Friendship Dance", which was enjoyed by all.

Recently, I received an email from Christina with 'Mitakuye Oyasin' written at the closing. I inquired what that meant.....and...to my pleasant surprise, here it is for all to enjoy:

"Mitakuye Oyasin is Lakota Sioux for "All My Relations." It is a prayer of oneness and harmony with all forms of life: other people, animals, birds, insects, trees and plants, and even rocks. It reminds us that we are connected to these other aspects of Creation, that we share a common kinship in the Hoop of Life."

 Thank you Christina for sharing.

Just a note to let ya'll know the the old Pierre Furniture and the old part of the Kings Inn (Lobby, cafe, bar, Lanser Room) are history and gone. They were demolished, torn down and the basements filled to make way for a new Walgreen store that will be under construction in the near future. Wish they could have left the bar back in the corner of the basement. Had a lot of good times there over the years

John and Rich.....thank you very much. I appreciate the information as I am sure all my classmates do as well. My family is scattered around....Billie is in Tarkio, MO; Joann (Bob Schomer) live in Phoenix and Seattle; Bill lives in the DC area and I live in Dana Point, CA. Louise and Chuck went to live with Mom and Dad.

And, it came a storm out here in SoCal last night...I'm scared....something ain't right, ya'll. Must be a'sinnin' up thar in Hollywood agin'.

Once again...many thanks and please invite others in your class to our board. Love hearing from all. Getting an email or reading your comments really brings back many, many memories...we did have some times, eh? Bill Fritz and I had a really weird summer once...we kept going from one job to another (each higher paying) at the dam until we finally figured out why they were higher paying....Lord....one job almost killed us....painting hot tar on those huge iron pilings they drove into the dirt...they were about 2' x 3" x 40' and we couldn't expose any part of our body to those fumes....so we were wrapped in a rubber suit with a glass plate to see out of....in 100+ temp.  As we drove home one evening....I looked at Bill and asked "Do I look like Tweety Bird?" I was sure I had sweated off all except bone marrow that day.  We lasted 2 weeks...when we quit...the foreman said "You boys lasted longer than anyone we've ever had." Our next venture wasn't as bad, but just as harrowing....later.

Shangreaux? Man....haven't heard that name in a while. How are you? And...all the Shangreaux's....please give us an update. Great family. If that happens in 2106....call me. Ha. Yeah, you are right. I stand corrected. Does that mean we can have a bunch of 50th reunions? Baird probably just rolled over....somewhere. Here's one for you:

Given: A = B = 1                     Action

A = B                                       (Start with a given: A = B)

A2 = AB                                   (multiply both sides by A)

A2  - B= AB - B2                  (Subtract B2 from both sides)

(A + B)*(A – B) = B*(A – B)    (Factor)

A + B = B                                 [Divide both sides by (A-B)]

1 + 1 = 1                                  (Insert 1 for A and B)

2 = 1                                        Bad Baird Day

Well now Kad....the "gifted" can talk and drink at the same time. Thank heavens. Unfortunately.....this has a negative effect on listeners accustomed to intelligent conversations. Ya gotta kind of balance the 2wo....or as me Dad would say whilst we were fishing "Fish don't bite noise, Son."

Another gem from me Dad-->we were sitting in a duck blind in 30 below Wx...waiting for a quacker...after 6 days, I says..."Mebbe they ain't comin' "....on the 7th day, he replied with: "If ya can't improve upon the silence; then keep your mouth shut."

You think maybe I talk too much? As the great line in "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" goes: "Give it a tink"....so, think about it...do I talk too much?.....then, send me your answers...always trying to get better.....hey, I can change.

What do you think about maintaining a list of where people will be staying for the reunion? Some people live in the area, and others will stay with friends and relatives. Others will be scattered in different motels. Frank has shown his skill with this website. I bet he could make a column with this information. It might be helpful to see where everyone is staying for those who might need a ride to the functions. If someone is staying in the next room, it would also be good to have breakfast together. Jim Leonard and I are staying at the Eagles View B&B in Fort Pierre and I believe Jim told me that Joyce Andresen is going to be there as well. I look forward to having breakfast with them. Apparently Mary Peters Krawitt and Sharon Hinsey Menzel are staying at the Comfort Inn along with someone named “Truly”. Where are others staying? Would someone keep a list?

I am a member of www.ClassMates.com; thought I saw her there but not real sure. Let me know if you guys find Jerry; it would be great to talk to him again.

How does a little brother ever get even with a big brother? Well...you need patience.... us 'lil bro's have to wait for an opening.

To illustrate, the following is a true story:

I have a story about Chuck, my big brother, you might enjoy....he had a heart attack (HA) about 10+ years back....it was a bad one....they gave him about 10% to survive...all of us flew into Okie City and to the hospital where the doctor told us that people with HA's loose their short term memory for awhile....and that Chuck may recognize us one moment and not the next and....that he would not know what happened to him...in fact, he would conjure up a story. Well, Chuck thought he had been in a car wreck. The doc told us not argue with him as that would just confuse him and slow down the recovery process (i.e. getting his memory back). He would ask me things like "Is my wife OK?" "Is the car totaled?" In his room, the A/C vent was directly across from his bed and one day the A/C came on and was blowing cold air up under his sheet. He had punched the button for a Nurse for some reason....he looked at me and said "Hey, Frank....I think my privates are showing...could you pull the sheet down before that Nurse gets here?" I got a sad look on my face and said "Hate to tell ya this....Bub....but ya lost them in the accident." And...damn...he started crying! I mean big 'ol tears. His wife came out of her chair...a wee bit peeved at me. But after we convinced him I was just kidding...he and I laughed and laughed and laughed. After all those years...I finally pulled a good one oh him...instead of the other way around....

Hi all. I said that I would give an update on places to stay. The Eagles View B and B has a nice web page, and is non-smoking. Several of us have made reservations there. See Jeannette's post earlier in the comments. You can go to their site at www.Eaglesview.org. The other alternatives are Comfort Inn on Sioux Avenue between the Ramkota and city center, and the new Holiday Inn Express in Fort Pierre (both are supposed to be pretty good, but are also non-smoking). For those who want to smoke in their rooms, other motels are available in both Pierre and Fort Pierre. You should be able to get them through a number of internet sites. If you don't feel comfortable checking them out on the internet, let me know and I will give you any feedback I have. Kad

Kad appears before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. "Have you ever done anything of particular merit?", St. Peter asks. "Well, I can think of one thing", Kad offers. "Once on a trip to Spearfish, I came upon a gang of bikers threatening a young lady. I directed them to leave her alone, but they would not listen. So I approached the largest and most heavily tattooed biker. I hit him on the head, kicked his bike over, and ripped out his nose ring, and told him "Leave her alone or you will answer to me". St. Peter was impressed. "When did this happen?". "Just a couple minutes ago."

See you all in September! Joyce

Linda Steele at Eagle View Bed and Breakfast says they will give a rate of $80 a night if the Class of 56 classmates will take all five rooms. This is really a nice place and if classmates are interested in taking all the rooms, we can get the break. Probably should do this right away so that "first come, first served" on these very nice accommodations. Again---you can view the accommodations at www.bbonline.com/sd/eaglesview/ Jeannette says: she has received registrations from Jim Kadlec and Judd and Diane Cooney! Looks like our classmates are coming this way! I hope so. By the way, we need to remember Bob Klemann in our thoughts and prayers at the passing of his mother very recently. Take care and stay well all. God bless. Jeannette

Friends...I am not an expert nor do I approach being knowledgeable in the field of medicine; however, I can read and take action. It seems to me that the Bird Flu is spreading and MAY mutate...killing upwards to an estimated 200M people. That is the worst case. You can get Tamiflu for around $90. That seems a reasonable action to take to be prepared for the worst case. I got our family doctor to give us a prescription and went to the local pharmacy and filled it...it is that easy. Please...."Git 'er done". Or, maybe some of you guys that are knowledgeable could tell the rest of us what is best to do.....See ya in September.

Loretta decided to establish a new career after retiring, and enrolled in The Acupuncture University located at Hayes. She was concerned that after graduation she couldn’t pin down a position because of her age, but decided to stick with the program. She didn’t need to worry though. After needling her a bit by taking a few jabs at her age, the Dean hired her to teach at the University because she was really sharp. The Dean was sure that Loretta could get the necessary points across to the students.

Welcome to "Tales from Clint and Pico"...True stories from the Dakotas----> Clint and Pico went camping in the Black Hills. After they got their tent all set up, both fell sound asleep. Some hours later, Pico wakes Clint and says, "Kemo Sabe, look towards sky, what you see?" Clint replies, "I see millions of stars." "What that tell you?" asked Pico. Clint ponders for a minute then says, "Astronomically speaking, it tells me there are millions of galaxies...billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Time wise, it appears to be a quarter past three in the morning. Theologically, the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What's it tell you, Pico?"

Pico replies: "You dumber than buffalo dung. Someone stole the tent."

Hello? Hello? Anyone there? I would really appreciated learning from anyone making plans for motel accomodations while in Pierre. If you respond to me directly, I'll let others know here in the comment section. If you prefer to indicate your plans for a motel here in the comments section, others may read it and make their plans accordingly. I will still let others know any count I have if I get e-mail responses. Either way, it would be helpful to hear from others in the class. I suspect that we should make our reservations early if the church meeting is also going have their attendees making reservations in other motels as well as the Ramkota. Jeannette...........The information indicates there will be a Sunday breakfast at the Ramkota. Has anyone checked to see if this is possible? Perhaps the meeting that is there has already booked the entire restaurant. Thanks, Kad

Hi all: I just called to get a reservation at the Ramkota and they told me that the entire hotel is booked. Apparently there is an Episcopal church meeting going on and they have the entire motel for two of the three nights I was trying to reserve. I don't know Pierre/Ft. Pierre anymore, but looking on the web, I found two motels which look reasonable. The Holiday Inn Express in Ft. Pierre, and the Comfort Inn in Pierre. I hope we won't be scattered all over the area in differing motels, and would prefer to stay where others are going to be. Is there any consensus at which we can arrive? According to what I read, the Holiday Inn Express is brand new, and quite nice. Can you let me know where many of you will be staying so I can make reservations accordingly. Perhaps Jeannette or Clint can guide us. It might even be helpful if we could get a block of rooms reserved for class of 56. I appreciate any feedback.

For those of you who plan on riding a horse or a bike to the Reunion or bringing your drunk grandkids....GOOD NEWS!!!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------- On 02/16/2006, Governor Rounds Signs Horse, Bicycle DUI Bill Into Law. Starting July first, South Dakota bar owners may want to install hitching posts and bike racks out front. That's when a new law takes effect that insulates bike and horse riders from being arrested for drunken driving. Governor Rounds signed the legislation. The measure removes bikes, trikes and horses from drunken driving statutes.

I just got e-mail from Christine. She was upset that I told everyone about Howards navel lint collection and hadn’t mentioned her area of expertise. I apologize for the oversight. You should all know that Christine has a fantastic rubber band collection which has taken her more than 40 years to catalog. It contains over 22 thousand rubber bands, including hand made rubber bands by B. F. Goodrich, Charles Goodyear, and Mr. Goodwrench. Good for you Christine. Perhaps you could give us a seminar as well.

Howard is pretty modest about it, but he has one of the finest navel lint collections in the world. He has navel lint from 27 US presidents, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Eva Peron and Marilyn Monroe. I’m hoping he will bring part of his collection to show us at the reunion, or give a seminar as part of the festivities.
